Scholarships funded by other organisations

Besides the scholarships offered by British Council there are other organisations which provide funding for studying in the UK.

Students may apply for a range of scholarships and funding provided by UK and international Government bodies, the European Commission, funding trusts, a number of research councils, industry and employers.

Inviting applications for the Emeka Anyaoku Visiting Chair Fellowship

The Institute of Commonwealth Studies (School of Advanced Study, University of London) is accepting applications for the Emeka Anyaoku Visiting Chair fellowship. It is open to distinguished academics in the field of Commonwealth Studies who currently hold a post at a University (or equivalent institution) within the Commonwealth and wish to spend between three and six consecutive months between September and June visiting the Institute. 

The Visiting Chair is expected to participate fully in the scholarly activity of the Institute, including developing their own research and presenting it at the annual Emeka Anyaoku Visiting Chair Lecture and other academic events within the Institute. 

The institute will cover costs associated with taking up the post, including the cost of return travel to London (economy class) from the holder’s point of origin and accommodation in London. The Visiting Chair will also receive a stipend of £1,000 per month. 

To apply for the 2016-17 academic year, please send a CV and covering letter to The covering letter should include the outcomes that the applicant seeks to gain from holding the Chair, the benefits to their ‘home’ institution, the benefits to the Institute of Commonwealth Studies, and a clear research proposal that the applicant would undertake if successful.

Chevening Scholarship

Chevening Scholarships are the UK government’s global scholarship programme, funded by the Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO) and partner organisations. The programme makes awards to outstanding scholars with leadership potential from around the world to study postgraduate courses at UK universities.

The Chevening awards for 2016 are now open for application. 

Chevening TCS Cyber Security Programme 

A fully funded 12 week (7 March – 27 May 2016) residential programme at Cranfield University, UK for mid career level Indian professionals. The application window will remain open from 3rd – 31st August. Apply now

One year Masters Scholarship at any University in the UK

Sir Ratan Tata Scholarships

Sir Ratan Tata Scholarships for study in the UK and the USA have been suspended for 2012. Resumption of the scholarships will be communicated on the website.

However Trust is offering Travel grants to the students proceeding for post-graduate and doctoral studies and for professionals proceeding for their mid-career programmes or to attend relevant and meaningful seminars and conferences abroad.

Academy Asia Senior Fellowship

The Queen Elizabeth II Academy for Leadership in International Affairs offers potential and established leaders from around the world the opportunity to spend up to twelve months at Chatham House. The fellowship will begin in February 2016 and is aimed at emerging or experienced leaders who will spend six months in London as an Academy senior fellow hosted by a Chatham House research department.

The deadline for applications is 30 September 2015.  

Applicants may propose a research project in one of nine research topics covering areas such as Global Health in Asia, Future Role of the United States in Asia, China and natural resources, Indonesia and ASEAN, Europe-China Security Cooperation, Security of Outer Space Systems, and China and the Future of the International Legal Order.

Inlaks Scholarships

Oxford and Cambridge society of India Scholarship

The Oxford and Cambridge Society of India offers scholarships for admission to the University of Oxford and the University of Cambridge respectively. 

The scholarships on offer are as below:

  • OCSI scholarship(s) worth INR 400,000 (Rupees Four Lacs only) tenable at either the University of Cambridge or the University of Oxford
  • One scholarship worth INR 100,000 (Rupees One Lac only) tenable only at Emmanuel College, University of Cambridge
  • One scholarship worth INR 100,000 (Rupees One Lac only) tenable only at St. Hilda’s College, University of Oxford
  • Also offering the Richard and Lydia Evans Bursary for a gifted Indian Dalit student to study at Gonville & Caius College, University of Cambridge (full funding for an undergraduate student)

The Rhodes Scholarships India

Applications are invited from outstanding graduates holding at least a first class honours degree in Pure or Applied Sciences, Humanities, Law or Medicine of Indian Universities for five scholarships, for a course of study leading to a degree of the University of Oxford (UK).

Research Council funding for postgraduate research training goes directly to research organisations who then undertake the selection and recruitment of students.
