The "Capacity Building for Internationalisation of Higher Education" programme aligns well with internationalisation of Indian Education as outlined in NEP2020. The programme focusses in knowledge sharing and facilitating internationalisation agenda of Indian HEIs. The programme covers all categories of HEIs in India – universities public/private, central, and state, technical institutions.
Capacity Building for Internationalisation of Higher Education

The British Council and the Government of Karnataka, under the MoU, have jointly launched the Capacity Building for International Officers programme, aimed at strengthening the internationalisation efforts of higher education institutions across Karnataka. Supported by the Karnataka State Higher Education Council (KSHEC), 28 universities were shortlisted, and over 58 participants took part in this specially designed workshop.
The valedictory session concluded on a high note, underscoring the vital role of university international offices in enhancing the quality of teaching and learning, fostering research collaborations, and enriching the overall student experience. A total of 58 participants from 28 universities across Karnataka have been successfully trained and certified, marking a significant step forward in advancing India-UK partnerships in higher education.
The British Council, in collaboration with the Government of Maharashtra under the MoU, has launched the Capacity Building for Internationalisation in Higher Education. This programme aimed at enhancing the internationalisation capabilities of higher education institutions in Maharashtra. This initiative, supported by the Department of Higher and Technical Education, Government of Maharashtra, has brought together 34 participants representing 19 universities. This workshop is designed to strengthen the internationalisation efforts of Indian universities.
Educational Consultants India Limited (EdCIL), the only Public Sector Undertaking under the Ministry of Education (MoE), in collaboration with the British Council, the UK’s international organisation for cultural relations and educational opportunities, has launched the Capacity Building for International Officers programme in North India. With this support, 32 participants from 21 public and private universities across North India have participated in the workshop, which is designed to strengthen internationalisation initiatives within Indian higher education institutions.
This initiative aims to enhance the capacity of Indian universities to engage in internationalisation efforts while leveraging UK’s expertise in this area. Aligned with the goals of India’s (NEP) 2020, the programme aspires to position India as a global hub of education by fostering cross-border collaborations and promoting excellence in higher education.

Under this initiative, 45 participants from 27 public and private universities across East and Northeast India have been nominated for the workshop. The workshop is designed to equip institutions with strategic and operational frameworks, providing the knowledge and skills necessary to strengthen global academic collaboration and support their internationalisation journey. This initiative seeks to strengthen the ability of Indian universities to drive internationalisation while highlighting the UK’s expertise in the field. In line with the vision of India’s National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the programme aims to position the country as a global education hub by encouraging cross-border partnerships and advancing excellence in higher education.
The British Council, in collaboration with the Government of Tamil Nadu under a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), has implemented the Capacity Building for Internationalisation in Higher Education programme. The initiative is designed to strengthen the internationalisation capacity of higher education institutions across Tamil Nadu, fostering global engagement and institutional development.
Supported by the Directorate of Technical Education, Government of Tamil Nadu, the programme brought together 32 participants representing 19 universities. Through this workshop, participating institutions are equipped with the knowledge, strategies, and best practices to advance their internationalisation efforts and align with global standards in higher education.
