Kolkata Edition: Creative Economies of the East and Northeast
Tuesday 15 December 2026

The Kolkata edition of Creative Convergence: Growth Reimagined will explore the distinctive cultural assets and creative strengths of East and Northeast India, examining how living heritage, indigenous knowledge, cultural festivals and grassroots creative enterprise can contribute to sustainable livelihoods, local economic development and place-making.

The programme will bring together Indian and UK perspectives to explore opportunities for collaboration across heritage, creative enterprise, literature, publishing and film.

The Sessions

The Kolkata edition will explore three areas relevant to the creative economies of Eastern and Northeast India:

  • Heritage-led Regeneration, Cultural Festivals and Place-making:
Examining how heritage, cultural festivals and creative clusters can generate economic and social value and support sustainable, community-led development.
  • Creative Economies of the East and Northeast – From Grassroots to Global:
Exploring how indigenous knowledge, crafts, textiles, music and creative entrepreneurship can strengthen regional economies, support livelihoods and connect creative enterprises to wider markets.
  • Literature, Translation, Publishing and Film:
Considering how regional stories, languages and creative voices can reach wider audiences through translation, publishing, film and India–UK cultural exchange.
