The Teacher Online Professional Development project India (TOPDI) in partnership with government schools across India. 

This project aims to develop the English language proficiency of government teachers from across India, through our innovative online course - myEnglish.  

We aim to work with government schools to raise standards of teaching and learning of English in institutions by building the capacity of their teachers. We will do this by helping teachers improve their English language skills through our innovative online course, myEnglish.

About myEnglish online course

myEnglish is online, interactive and delivered by expert British Council teachers who specialise in online teaching.

In this 6-week course you will: 

  • learn with your British Council teacher and your coursemates in a supportive, interactive and engaging environment
  • learn through live online classes, online activities and videos
  • improve your speaking, writing, reading and listening skills, and your pronunciation, grammar and vocabulary
  • develop interpersonal communication, time management, presentation skills and become better equipped professionals
  • increase familiarity with using digital technology, becoming more tech savvy
  • develop critical thinking and other 21st century skills
  • receive individual feedback and guidance from your teacher and better understand your strengths and weaknesses in English
  • be exposed to a range of innovative eLearning and English language teaching methodologies which you can apply in your own classrooms
  • receive a British Council certificate on successful completion. 

Course format:

  • Join two hours of live online classes each week to practice language and develop your speaking skills with your teacher and classmates.
  • Access online activities to improve your language skills with instant feedback.
  • Practise communication and improve your speaking and writing skills with personal feedback from your teacher.

Study time and levels:

  • Approximately 50 hours over 6 weeks (per course)
  • The course will be delivered as per your current English language level at Pre Intermediate, Intermediate or Upper Intermediate
