The TNE Grant is a part of the Going Global Partnerships programme that has been initiated by the British Council to promote collaboration between industry and academia. The Going Global Partnerships programme was started in 2021 to promote collaboration and innovation in teaching and learning and transnational education in higher education institutions between India and the UK.
The core objective of this grant call is to develop and launch TNE courses/degree programmes in emerging disciplines that will lead to stronger academia and industry engagement and create opportunities of youth in emerging themes. This grant call seeks to support innovative, interdisciplinary, and high-impact TNE courses/degree programme development and launch in emerging disciplines, a list of thematic areas is listed below. The call aims to promote collaboration between UK and India HEIs and industry to addresses societal, economic, environmental, and global challenges through launch of TNE courses/degree programmes.
Note: This call is not to support research collaboration or doing exclusively capacity building training/workshops/programmes in below mentioned areas but to promote creation of strong pipeline of TNE courses/degree programme in emerging areas.
Selection Criteria:
- The three partnering institutions with representation from the UK and Indian institutions and the industry partner (from India/UK), must submit a joint application. The consortium must have one lead applicant based at a UK institution, one co-applicant based at an Indian institution and one industry partner either from India or UK, with clear roles and responsibilities defined.
- Applications must be supported by the signing authority of all the participating Indian and UK institutions and the industry partner. Letter of support on the institution letter head should be sent.
- Consortium with a strong plan of systemic impact will be given preference.
- Consortiums must have committed resources and other funds for this collaboration. Any value add to the proposal in terms of additional funds and resources is desirable. Preference will be given to consortium sponsored or approved by state governments in India and/or aligned to both countries' state and national priorities.
- Proposal must demonstrate strength of the consortium in the proposed thematic area of collaboration through high ranking, industry-academia linkages, research and innovation, and a great student learning experience.

Note: Applicants must ensure that all due diligence relating to fund transfers, including FCRA compliance, institutional approvals, and processing timelines, is completed in advance to avoid delays to project delivery.
Other conditions for awarding the grant:
- All grants will be disbursed to the UK Higher Education Institutions, and they will be responsible for the modalities of sharing the grants with their Indian partners for activities related to the project. There is no requirement for the split to be of a particular ratio, but it should mutually and equitably address the partnership’s goal.
- The themes and subjects selected for this partnership should not be culturally insensitive, controversial or matters related to UK and India’s internal security. Other than this requirement, it is open to all subject areas.
- Preference will be given if the themes for collaborative proposals are in areas that have a strong market demand.
