We are committed to strengthening the quality of English language teaching in India by providing English language teachers with access to world-leading continuing professional development (CPD) opportunities. Since 2020, we have been offering fully funded scholarships for English teachers and teacher educators from India in partnership with the University of Stirling and the University of Portsmouth.

The scholarships are designed to build pedagogical expertise, assessment literacy, and strategic capacity among teachers who are unable to undertake long-term, face-to-face study in the UK. The blended model combining online postgraduate study with a two-week fully funded residential visit to the UK supports the direct application of learning to classroom practice within local educational contexts.

The scholarship covers

  • One successful IELTS examination cost
  • Tuition fees
  • A stipend for living expenses while in the UK
  • Flights and connecting travel to the UK
  • Visa costs

In addition, the programme fosters sustained professional networks and ongoing engagement with the British Council, enabling peer collaboration, reflective practice, and knowledge sharing. Collectively, these outcomes contribute to improved teaching quality and enhanced learning opportunities for young people across India.
