New Delhi: To stimulate continuous and lifelong professional development in English language learning and teaching, British Council today announces the launch of their new publication, Innovations in Continuing Professional Development of English Language Teachers. The book is edited by David Hayes and will be launched by Prof. Santosh Panda, Chairperson, National Council of Teacher Education at the British Council in New Delhi.
This is the first time one of British Council’s global publications is being launched simultaneously in London and Delhi.
The launch is part of British Council’s Schools’ Week – a series of events around the different British Council programmes and activities pertaining to schools. The event will also available to watch live online from around the world, on the British Council Seminars YouTube channel
The publication offers global perspectives on the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) of English language teachers across a range of levels — sector-wide, institutional and personal. The chapters are grounded in practice and supported by theory, offering examples of innovations that have been tried and tested and illustrate the vibrancy of English language teacher development worldwide. The papers cover a wide range of geographical areas and educational contexts that will interest anyone involved in the continuing professional development of English language teachers wishing to reflect on and refresh their practice.
Teaching is a learning profession and like any other professionals teachers are expected to be life-long learners. The book reflects the nature of teacher development as a lifelong experience extending from initial training to throughout the whole career, and represents the wide range of needs and contexts to which continuing professional development programmes respond. There is valuable information about how continuing professional development programmes are designed and how they impact on the different stakeholders involved.
British Council spokespersons Rob Lynes, Director India, and Alison Barrett, Director, English for Education Systems, South Asia, will be present here along with prominent personalities like Amol Padwad, Head, Department of English, J.M. Patel College, Bhandara and Prof. Rama Mathew, Faculty of Education, Delhi University, Delhi.
