Please note the following terms and conditions related to the library services and code of behaviour expected from our members.

  • All members pay a subscription fee for availing the library services. British Council reserves the right to revise the fee every year.
  • Your membership commences from the day you receive an acknowledgment from the Customer Services for the payment of membership fee, and it will be valid for one year or two months/ one month. The membership will lapse automatically at the end of the above mentioned period and the services will not be available to you unless it is renewed.
  • When your membership lapses, we will send you a renewal reminder and you may pay the renewal fee by cash, credit/debit card or online. You will be eligible for a discount, at a rate as specified by the British Council, if renewed within 30 days.
  • You must present your membership card on every visit to the library to obtain the services.
  • Membership rights are not transferable to another individual, but the membership can be transferred to other library centres within India.
  • You must take reasonable care to prevent loss, theft or misuse of your membership card. Any such incident must be reported to the British Council Customer Services immediately. British Council reserves the right to charge a reasonable fee, at its sole discretion, for replacement of the membership card.
  • British Council will not be responsible for loss of any personal belongings while you are in our premise. 
  • Our premises is an open access space. Request you to be cautious when approached by strangers. You are welcome to contact our staff at our customer service desk for any queries or clarifications.
  • Your membership fee is non-refundable once it has been received by the British Council. 
  • British Council may ask you to pay fines for the loss of, damage to and/or late return of documents borrowed from the library. A request for fine waiver will not be considered unless there is a valid medical certificate from a medical practitioner registered with the All India Medical Council.
  • You must not allow anyone else to use your membership card. Allowing someone else to use your card may result in cancellation of membership without prior notice. No refund of fee will be granted under these circumstances.
  • British Council reserves the right to refuse or terminate the membership of those who intentionally damage or steal our property, misuse the membership, cause disruption or inconvenience, or harass any customer, staff member or visitor or breach any of the stipulated terms and conditions.
