About the Artwork:

Title: Study in Black
Medium: Stoneware/2024

Working with black clay imported from Stoke-on-Trent in UK to India has been a rewarding experience. The clay fires to a deep black and has a strong sculptural quality that is engaging to work with.

This body of work is a Study in Black, consisting of two works placed side by side. One features an abstract human face emerging from a richly textured surface, while the other explores flowing, wave-like curves created through layered clay slabs.

Together, the two works create a sublime interplay of form, life, and colour — or rather, the absence of colour in black. Despite their differing expressions, they are unified through a shared material and monochromatic presence, reflecting a quiet unity in diversity.
