Culture Fridays presents Macbeth: Voices of Power, a theatre and interdisciplinary panel discussion presented by South Kolkata Hamari Muskan to mark World Mental Health Day. Join us for an evening of theatre, conversation and audience engagement exploring Shakespeare’s Macbeth through contemporary perspectives on mental health, emotional well-being, gender, power, visual culture and social inclusion. Conceptualised and directed by Aditi Ray.
Through themes of ambition, guilt, paranoia, trauma, violence and psychological conflict, Macbeth opens up conversations around emotional well-being, vulnerability and the pressures faced by individuals and communities today. Following the performance, Aditi Ray will moderate an interdisciplinary panel bringing together perspectives from literature, film studies, gender, advertising and mental health.

The programme will be graced by Chief Guest Prof. Anupam Basu, Former Professor at IIT Kharagpur and Jadavpur University and Vice-Chancellor of Sister Nivedita University, and Guest of Honour Prof. Somprakash Bandopadhyay of IIT Bombay and IIM Kolkata as well as other prominent speakers.

South Kolkata Hamari Muskan is an anti-trafficking organisation working in Kolkata since 2009. It works in the red light areas of Sonagachi and Bowbazar with the children, adolescents and women survivors to protect them from different forms of violence and abuse and to build their confidence and resilience so that they can choose a dignified life.
