The British Council Reading Challenge is back!
In celebration of the National Year of Reading in the UK and its theme “Go All In,” this initiative combines guided reading from our physical collection with reflective fostering reading habits and fuelling creativity. It opens doors to imagination, new perspectives, and creative expression. Reading helps children build confidence, improve communication skills, and develop empathy by connecting with stories from around the world.
This year, we move beyond a single theme and invite young readers to discover their own reading journey. Children can explore a wide range of books across genres—adventure, mystery, fantasy, real-life stories, and more—making each experience unique, personal, and exciting.
What’s the challenge?
The challenge is simple and fun:
- Read one book per week
- Complete four books in four weeks
- Borrow one book at a time from the library
- Choose any book from our library collection
- Two engagement sessions will be offered as a premium addition to the Reading Challenge programme.
- On successfully completing the challenge, each participant will receive a certificate and a medal.
Age groups:
- 5–8 years
- 9–12 years
Registration fee:
Members register at INR 1000 Non-members register at INR 1500
Participants are encouraged to explore different genres and share their reading experiences along the way.
Expected Outcomes:
- Improved reading habits and enhanced comprehension, communication, and creative thinking skills among participants.
- Increased confidence and engagement, with children developing empathy and a broader understanding of diverse perspectives through reading.
Important dates:
- Last date to register for the challenge is Thursday 28 May 2026
- Challenge duration is from Saturday 30 May 2026 with an orientation session to Sunday 28 May 2026.
