The British Council, in partnership with the BFI Flare: London LGBTQIA+ Film Festival, invites you to an evening of powerful storytelling from filmmakers around the world. Featuring five compelling films that explore love, courage, secrets, and betrayal, this special screening is part of our Culture Friday series—celebrating diverse voices and global perspectives through cinema.
This year’s Five Films For Freedom brings together an exciting group of filmmakers whose work reflects diverse cultural and artistic perspectives from across the world. The 2026 selection features films by Katie Lambert (UK), Amy Adler (USA/Mexico), Laurie Bisceglia (France), Edward Nguyen (Vietnam/USA), and Brazilian collaborators Monica Palazzo and Joana Galvão. Together, these directors bring distinctive storytelling approaches shaped by their varied artistic practices — from visual arts and photography to fiction filmmaking and documentary — creating films that explore queer identity, intimacy, resilience and self-discovery across different social and cultural contexts.
