The British Council, in partnership with the Indo British Scholars Association, presents a poignant evening celebrating the enduring cultural dialogue between Rabindranath Tagore and the United Kingdom—an exchange that reshaped global literary and artistic thought. Tagore’s relationship with Britain (1878–1930) deeply influenced his creative and philosophical voice. From his early years at University College London to his recognition in leading literary circles, the UK served as both a space for exploration and a platform for his ideas. His landmark 1912 visit introduced Gitanjali (Song Offerings) to London’s intellectual community, earning admiration from W. B. Yeats and Ezra Pound, and leading to his Nobel Prize in Literature.

Curated by Korak Basu, the evening reflects Tagore’s vision of unity, dialogue, and cultural harmony between India and the UK, featuring Pradip Dutta, Rinadolon Bandopadhyay, and Ipsita Ganguli.

Event details: Friday 15 May 2026, 6.00 p.m. onwards at British Council, 16 Camac Street, L&T Chambers, Kolkata -700017
