As part of World Alzheimer's Month 2026, British Council and The Alzheimer's and Related Disorders Society of India (ARDSI) Calcutta Chapter, presents Memory on Page and Screen—an evening of film, conversation, and reflection on how dementia is understood and represented through stories and creative expression.
About the event
The programme will feature a screening of the acclaimed Bengali film Muhurto, an ARDSI Calcutta production, followed by an engaging panel discussion bringing together voices from the worlds of literature, cinema, healthcare, caregiving, and the wider community. The screening offers an opportunity to experience dementia through the language of cinema and explore the human stories, emotions, and relationships that surround it. In keeping with the spirit of the National Year of Reading, reading and literary perspectives will add another dimension to the conversation, inviting audiences to reflect on how dementia, memory, identity, and ageing are represented through words, stories, and creative expression.
Memory on Page and Screen brings film, literature, reading, and lived experience together to explore how the arts can help us understand dementia with greater empathy and humanity. Through screening, reading, and dialogue, the programme highlights the power of cultural expression to address important social issues and reflects the British Council’s commitment to cultural exchange, creativity, dialogue, and social impact.

The Alzheimer's and Related Disorders Society of India (ARDSI) Calcutta Chapter has been working for over three decades to raise awareness about dementia, support families, advocate for brain health, and improve the quality of life of people living with dementia and their caregivers. By examining dementia through stories and creative expression, they hope to foster empathy, challenge stereotypes, and encourage a more inclusive and dementia-friendly society.
