A modern thriller, deeply rooted in literary tradition—set in the heart of Calcutta. Rich Man, Poor Man, Beggar Man, Thief by Sarojesh Mukerjee takes its name from a line in A.A. Milne’s poem Now We Are Six, but there’s nothing childlike about the story that unfolds.

The plot: A tight knit group of friends find their lives turned upside down after a robbery triggers a chain of shocking events: an apparent accident (or was it?), a chilling abduction, and two brutal murders. What begins as a personal crisis spirals into something far more sinister. Told in an innovative epistolary format—through letters, emails, and messages—this gripping mystery is inspired by Janice Hallett’s bestselling novel The Appeal. The narrative style invites readers to play detective, piecing together truths hidden between the lines. The novel blends British literary influence with Indian storytelling, offering a crime fiction experience unlike any other.
