Arjun Shivaji Jain is a graduate in nuclear physics from the Indian Institute of Technology in Roorkee and Art & Science from Central Saint Martins, of the University of the Arts in London. For the last four years, in Delhi, he has been Director of the Red House cultural centre catering now to an audience of artists and art-lovers numbering about 13000 – with over 150 events and international collaborations to his credit. He has not only actually constructed the Red House architecturally (named after William Morris's Red House in Bexleyheath) from scratch, but also worked with organisations such as the British Council, the British High Commission, the Ministry of Culture in India, and the Embassy of Spain in India.

He has been board member of the Guild of St George in the UK and has lectured for institutes such as the Royal College of Art and the Manchester Metropolitan University. In 2023, he was selected and published as one of the 108 representative contemporary artists of India by Dr Alka Pande of the India Habitat Centre. Most recently, he has just concluded a very successful lecture tour of Croatia.

About the Artwork:

Title: Solitude, if I must thee accept
Medium: Watercolour on Paper

Created whilst studying in London, the painting explores the experience of being both participant and outsider. Through a crowded party viewed through a keyhole, it reflects on loneliness, belonging, and the hidden emotional realities that shaped my journey as a young Indian artist in the UK.
