This event marked a significant milestone in the 18-year collaboration between both organisations, which has positively impacted sports education and grassroots football development across India through initiatives such as Premier League Primary Stars and Premier Skills.
Bringing together 26 coach educators from various part of the country, the programme featured expert training led by coaches from the Premier League, Brentford, and Newcastle United, focusing on modern coaching techniques, inclusive play, and leadership skills. The culmination of the programme was a vibrant showcase at the Cooperage Football Ground, where the newly trained coaches put their learning into practice with 80 children from the OSCAR Foundation, highlighting football’s power to empower and unite communities.
The event received high-profile support, with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer attending and witnessing firsthand the impact of the initiative. He described it as a powerful example of how British sport can inspire and bring positive change to youth around the world. Football legend Michael Owen also joined the showcase, engaging with coaches and young players and participating in a friendly match, making the experience memorable for everyone involved. Additionally there was added excitement with the presence of the iconic Premier League Cup and became a major highlight on social media. Participants and guests proudly posed for photos with the trophy, adding to the event’s energy, enthusiasm, and visibility.
This latest initiative reflects the enduring legacy of the Premier League and British Council partnership, which has trained over 7,500 coaches, referees, and educators, benefitting more than 164,000 young people in India alone. The commitment to supporting the next generation of community leaders and footballers remains stronger than ever.
