Our Teaching Centres
Teaching is at the heart of our cultural relations work. We have been teaching in India since 1997. We engage with over 20000 people every year through our teaching centres in Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad and Kolkata. We have been offering teacher training courses since 2002. We also cater to the needs of corporate clients. Through our English teaching, we aim to give you the skills and confidence to achieve your goals.
Libraries
The British Council Library is your gateway to a world of opportunity. We reach millions of people across India through our presence in nine cities. Each centre has its own programme of events and workshops. In addition to the wide range of books at our libraries, members can access more than 70,000 e-books and 14,000 e-journals online.

Goa Education Trust (GET) Scholarships
Residents of Goa, or applicants born to Goan parents or grandparents, are eligible to apply for the GET Scholarship. Funding is available in the form of a scholarship or research fellowship to students planning to undertake a postgraduate course of study in the UK in any academic discipline.

IELTS scholarships
We are delighted to announce the British Council IELTS Scholarship award for 2013. The British Council IELTS Scholarship Award was launched with the objective of supporting Indian students intending to study in an English-speaking country. Most importantly, it is a commitment to realising British Council’s aspiration of enabling young people to achieve their life goals. The scholarship will award Eight IELTS candidates INR 300,000 each towards the cost of tuition fees.

Jubilee Scholars: Indian students visit Downing Street
Priyank Hirani, who is studying for a master’s at Imperial College London on aJubilee Scholarship, writes about visiting Number 10 Downing Street. The scholarship allows young Indians to study in the UK for a one-year master’s degree in management, manufacturing, science and technology.
Debating Matters
An interactive high school debating competition, Debating Matters was pioneered by the Institute of Ideas in the UK. Since its formation, the aim behind Debating Matters has been to steer students away from traditional debate formats and engage them in discussion on some of the most challenging issues faced by society today.

Active Citizens is a global network of community leaders being developed by the British Council and local civil society partners in participating countries.
