Turn your kids into voracious readers with the Reading Challenge starting from 7 November 2022!
British Council in collaboration with the Reading Agency brings you the Reading Challenge - an exciting reading adventure for children aged 5-12 years to encourage them to read for pleasure, improve their English, and become confident readers.
The theme of the challenge is Gadgeteers, created in partnership with Science Museum Group and illustrated by top children’s writer and illustrator Julian Beresford. Participating kids must read a minimum of 6 books in 6 weeks from our collection of new, hand-picked books issued on a returnable basis. Each Reading Challenge participant will:
- receive a Gadgeteers welcome kit
- attend specially curated workshops on reading, writing and speaking
- collect stickers and rewards for their reading achievements
- receive a certificate and medal on completing the challenge.
What's more? A range of activities and fun workshops to enhance your child's creativity, imagination, and instil a lifelong love of reading!
Reading Challenge Starts! | Date: 7 November 2022 (Monday) |
Participants can visit the British Council Delhi library to get the Reading Challenge books issued. | Children are expected to get their first book for the challenge issued and write a book review for it and submit to the library on their next visit. |
Workshop 1 - Super Readers | Date: 13 November 2022 (Sunday) Duration: 1 hour 30 minutes |
“The more one reads, the better one reads.” The workshop will help participants explore their interests and make mindful choices while picking a book to read. The session activities will also assist them in building reading stamina and skills to improve comprehension. | Learning Outcomes: Children will •discover their likes and dislikes, •learn to make choices, •pick up pace in reading. |
Workshop 2 - Super Innovators |
Date: 27 November 2022 (Sunday) Duration: 1 hour 30 minutes |
Children will create fictional ‘Gadgeteers’ or characters with super gadgets. The workshop will encourage learners to use their curiosity and wonder to understand and decode the science behind a whole range of vista from fashion and technology to cooking and music. Children will learn to fashion their thought and put their ideas on a piece of paper. | Learning Outcomes: Children will •develop a flair for creative writing, •learn how to develop fictional characters and story plots, •build new vocabulary and coin new terms. |
Workshop 3 - Super Presenters | Date: 11 December 2022 (Sunday) Duration: 1 hour 30 minutes |
"If you don't know what you wantto achieve in your presentation your audience never will." -Harvey Diamond. The session will help participants become better presenters. They will give voice to their ideas and practice bringing their super innovations on stage in front of a live audience. | Learning Outcomes: Children will •build stage confidence, •polish the art of public speaking, •learn to present their ideas eloquently. |
Reading Challenge Culmination | Date: 17 December 2022 (Saturday) |
The participants who complete the challenge successfully will receive a medal and certificate. | Duration: 2 hours |

Terms & Conditions:
- The non-refundable participation fee for the programme is payable in advance in full.
- Once a participant registers for the programme, the registration cannot be cancelled.
- Participants are expected to attend the workshops at the British Council Delhi library.
- Only successful participants who submit six book reviews within the duration of the programme will be eligible to receive the medal and the certificate.
- The British Council reserves the right to change the dates of the programme and the workshops at its discretion.
