What is SB.TV Twelfth Night Film:
The British Council have launched the first in their series of films that creatively reinterpret famous pieces of Shakespeare's work by up and coming UK artists and filmmakers. The first of these is a reinterpretation of Twelfth Night created by the online grime and hip-hop broadcaster SB.TV. It features the artists Maverick Sabre, Mic Righteous, Eyez, NoLay and Nego True.
The film premiered on the SB.TV channel and The Guardian on Twelfth Night (5th January 2016).
SBTV founder Jamal Edwards said of the project - “At SBTV, collaboration is so important; bringing artists together from different walks of life and challenging what is considered the norm. Shakespeare’s plays still to this day have such a cultural impact, in the language we use and in the films and entertainment we enjoy. That being said, it’s often harder for new generations to connect with all of the language.
This being the case, to help bridge the gap and raise awareness to a whole new generation, we’ve brought together some of our favourite modern day poets to put a fresh spin on one of Shakespeare’s most iconic plays, Twelfth Night. Enjoy!”
A behind the scenes video of the project has also been released on The Guardian's online channel:
