Impulse – the first ever dance season from the British Council in India- started as a project to showcase the best of UK contemporary dance and transformed into a vibrant platform of creative and collaborative exchange between dance professionals, dance students, dance teachers in both countries and a whole range of audiences across India.
Between September 2012 and February 2013 we hosted five of the most innovative UK dance companies: Akram Khan Dance Company , Scottish Dance Theatre, Aakash Odedra Dance Company, Protein and Champloo. We showcased their performances in Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Mumbai, Delhi and Thrissur.
In addition, we proudly presented a wide range of educational and outreach activities with dancers and schools, offering unprecedented nertworking and learning opportunities through our local partners, such as Attakkalari, Gati Dance Forum, Danceworx and Prakriti Foundation.
Our audience went beyond 25,000 and included people from all walks of life, age groups and backgrounds and involved a large selection of big and small dance organisations in the country.
Every performance that was showcased as part of Impulse was different, ranging from contemporary to kathak to hip hop to dance theatre to screen dance to ballet influenced work.
