About the European Union Film festival
The 21st edition of the European Union Film Festival opens at the British Council in New Delhi with a production of Shakespeare’s Coriolanus as this is the 400th anniversary year of Shakespeare’s death. The festival will present screenings of a collection of 24 award-winning European films that showcase different genres of European Cinema from drama, romance, comedy, documentary, animation, fairy tale and more.
The festival will travel across different cities such as Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Chandigarh, Coimbatore, Ahmedabad, Jodhpur, Pune, Hyderabad and Bengaluru.

A 2011 adaptation of the play directed by Ralph Fiennes, Coriolanus is his directorial debut, and presents a contemporary day version of Rome, where riots are in progress after stores of grain are withheld from citizens and civil liberties are constrained. In this contemporary version, Ralph Fiennes has created a vibrant interpretation of Coriolanus with political relevance.
