Our libraries in Delhi, Chennai and Kolkata are now open for members, by pre-confirmed appointment only. You can now visit the library, study, self-browse and borrow your favourite books, DVDs and magazines and return them into the drop-box by the due date. This facility is in continuation to the online book ordering and pickup service which is available as an option as well for members. Read below for more details on physical book access options. 

We have come up with exciting line-up of activities for you and your kids . These sessions will include free storytelling, puppet making, exciting game and Zumba sessions for the kids; a perfect mix of learning and fun activities for the family to spend time together. For adults, we have free and exciting Reading Club and Conversation Club sessions. To know more details around these assortment of free activities, please read below.

Physical book browsing and borrowing

  • In line with the Covid-19 guidelines issued by the government, only individuals above 15 years are allowed to visit the library.
  • You can book an appointment by logging onto your Digital Library account and then visit the library on the allotted date and time from Monday to Saturday, 10.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m.
  • Please book your appointment no later than 4.00 p.m. for a visit scheduled on the following day.
  •  If the requested time slot isn’t available owing to restrictions on the number of people allowed inside the library at a given time, you can choose from alternative available time slots.
  • You will be required to fill up a mandatory online health declaration form.
  • Temperature checks will be carried out at the security gate and if no fever is detected, you will be allowed to enter the premises after sanitising your hands.
  • Your stay in the library will be for an allotted time of two hours only. During this time, you can study, browse through the collection and select your books for borrowing. Please note that the library space will not be available for reading at the moment.
  • You must wear a mask, always practise social distancing norms and frequently sanitise your hands during your stay in the library.
  • Borrowing period and other circulation rules will remain unchanged.

Online book ordering and pick up

  • We encourage our members to borrow books from our libraries using the online book ordering facility during the period of library closure.
  • You can avail the drop box kept at the security gate to return the borrowed items.
  • Once your order is ready, you'll receive an SMS and email asking you to collect your pack from the British Council Library’s security gate.
  • Collections can be made from Monday to Saturday from 10.00 a.m. and 5.00 p.m.
  • Please adhere to the time slot shared with you for the pick up and drop of the books.
  • You can cancel the order within 24 hours of booking with us. No cancellation requests will be accepted after that.
  • Please bring your membership card and a carry bag when you come to collect your order. No carry bags will be provided by the British Council.
  • You must wear a mask, carry a sanitiser and practice social distancing norms.
  • Borrowing period and other circulation rules will remain unchanged.
