The British Council will be conducting workshops and reading sessions for young literature enthusiasts in Delhi from 29th to 31st August in partnership with the Ghummakkad Narain – Travelling Literature festival, Oxford Bookstores, Roli Books, National Book Trust and Manchester Metropolitan University.
Noted authors and illustrators include Emily Gravett, Ranjit Lal, Atanu Roy, Sherry Ashworth and Iris Feindt. Sessions would vary from age 6 to 14 years. A workshop for primary teachers would also be conducted by Emily, Sherry and Iris on the art of teaching children to read and create stories.
Ranjit Lal has authored several books including, The Simians of South Block and the Yumyum Piglets; The Crow Chronicles; The Life and Times of Altu Faltu; Birds of Delhi; Birds from My Window; The Caterpillar Who Went on a Diet and Other Stories; When Banshee Kissed Bimbo, The Battle for No. 19 and Black Limericks.
Emily Gravett is the winner of the 2004 Macmillan Prize for Illustration. She has authored and illustrated over 12 picture books including Wolves, Meerkat Mail, Monkey and Me, Dogs, The Rabbit and Matilda’s Cat. She is one of UK's best-known, best-loved and best-selling picture book author-artists.
Atanu Roy is an award winning illustrator, artist and cartoonist who has illustrated more than a hundred books for children. He is the recipient of Children’s Choice Award for book illustration. He has created games, educational aids, artwork, illustration, experimental drawing and painting in various media.
Sherry Ashworth studied English Literature at the University of Oxford and York and teaches at the Manchester Metropolitan University. She has written several books for adults and young adults, Blinded by the Light won the 2003 North East Book Award; and Paralysed won the South Lanarkshire Book Award and the Leicester Book of the Year Award.
Iris Feindt has written a children’s novel and numerous short stories. She has been a writer in residence at Bolton School and currently works as an Associate Lecturer in Creative Writing at Manchester Metropolitan University. After finishing the MA in Creative Writing at MMU, she started a small press with six classmates.
