Summer magic with poetry

Saturday, 21 May 2016 - 4:00pm to Sunday, 22 May 2016 - 6:30pm

This workshop is designed to enable children to enjoy and engage with the various joys and forms that poetry can offer. From lyrical ballads to nonsense verse, from acrostic poems to haiku and shape poems, they will be taken through a behind-the-scenes journey to explore this fascinating method of expression. Participants will also be encouraged to look within and pen their own verses, led by a variety of introspective games, quizzes and activities.

DATE & TIME: 21 - 22 MAY, 16:00 - 18:30

The workshop will spread over two consecutive days and will progress from simple exercises and forms to more complex and detailed activities. Starting with traditional verses and moving towards modern poetry, they will juggle rhyme and reason, play with word associations, break down the forms of lyrics, and more. Participants will create an independent poem on each day and receive facilitator feedback on the same.

The workshop will explore the following:

  • what makes a piece of writing poetry
  • forms, patterns and styles of poetry
  • poetic devices and techniques
  • writing through the senses

These workshops are facilitated by experienced trainers.
