British Council invites you for a screening of ATOMOS, a 70-minute film focusing on award-winning contemporary dance choreographer Wayne McGregor CBE. The film will be preceded by a screening of BIG DANCE SHORTS INDIA, 4 short films celebrating the relationship between dance and film

The films are commissioned by Random Acts, British Council, Big Dance for Channel 4.

In Atomos, bodies, movement, film, sound and light are atomised into miniature shards of intense sensation. Taking creative points of departure from atomised film, music and biometric data, McGregor’s choreography is woven into an intense 70 minute film, performed by the incredible dancers of Company Wayne McGregor in his distinctive style - sculptural, rigorous, jarring and hauntingly beautiful.

Known for his unique, tenacious questioning across the interface of art and science and through the body and mind, multi award-winning choreographer and director Wayne McGregor has remained at the forefront of contemporary arts for the past 25 years. Following a highly successful national and international tour of the original stage production, McGregor has extended and translated his acclaimed work Atomos into a unique film experience, directed by McGregor and long-time collaborator Ravi Deepres. Atomos features a soaring score by A Winged Victory For The Sullen, incredible lighting by Lucy Carter, original footage by Ravi Deepres, and costumes by wearable technology specialists Studio XO. Costumes in 3D film by Moritz Junge originally designed for the production UnDance.

Four outstanding 3-4 minute dance-film ideas have been commissioned for Channel 4’s Random Acts strand as part of UK/India 2017 season. Each film celebrates the relationship between dance and film, and between the UK and India.  The four winning films cover a range of film-making and choreographic styles.
