This one-day event for policy makers and those working on education policy implementation and reform will focus on:

  • discussing the opportunities and challenges for teaching and learning in multilingual classrooms
  • discussing and sharing current policy and practice in India and sharing recommendations
  • explaining the main findings of the MultiLila research project conducted in Hyderabad, Delhi and Patna
  • providing an opportunity for participants to hear feedback from teachers about their needs related to this important area of education.

The MultiLila research project is led by the University of Cambridge in collaboration with the University of Reading, the English and Foreign Languages University, Jawaharlal Nehru University, and NIMHANS Bangalore. It is an ESRC-DFID funded four-year project running from May 2016 to April 2020, which aims to explore the development of multilingual children’s school skills and cognitive abilities in English medium instruction (EMI) versus regional medium of instruction schools across three research sites – Delhi, Hyderabad and Patna.
