British Council is celebrating Madras Week to create awareness about the City and its rich heritage and culture. As part of this celebration exciting programmes are planned from 22 to 27 August 2016. The venue for the events will be British Council Division, 737, Anna Salai, Chennai.

Talk on ‘British architectural photographers and the heritage of Madras Presidency, 1855-1905’ by Dr Crispin Branfoot, Senior Lecturer in South Asian Art and Archaeology at SAOS, University of London.
Bard’s tryst with Madras - 27 August 2016, 16.00 onwards
A contemporary presentation of an act in any Shakespearean play to be dramatised by college students. The setting of the play should be Madras. It will be a 10 minute presentation by each team. It will be in English language but might include words and phrases in the local dialect.
Each participant will be provided a certificate of participation. The three winning teams will be provided with gift vouchers and top team will perform live in the launch programme of Shakespeare’s Complete Walks in Nov/Dec 2016.
Documentary screening – Chennai lakes - 27 august 2016, 17.30 onwards
Screening of the documentary "Chennai Lakes" produced by Environmentalist Foundation of India. It is a 20 minute documentary that highlights the plight of Chennai's lakes and is aimed at sensitizing the larger public on the need for conserving our waterbodies. This will be followed by a brief discussion on the topic.
