Five Films for Freedom is a global, online short film programme hosted by the British Council and BFI Flare in support of LGBTIQ+ rights.

Every year, the British Council and BFI Flare handpick five LGBTIQ+ themed short films, and make them available for audiences across the world to watch online for free.

#FiveFilmsForFreedom celebrations in India

The British Council in India partners with The Queer Muslim Project – South Asia’s largest virtual network of queer, Muslim, and allied individuals – to celebrate and amplify LGBTIQ+ stories and voices as part of Five Films for Freedom 2021.

In addition to a series of Covid-19-sensitive film screenings and curated online and offline events hosted by prominent Indian LGBTIQ+ and allied communities, collectives, and organisations, the programme this year also includes an online digital storytelling workshop for young LGBTIQ+ artists and creators based in India and Nepal.

The short films are available to watch online until 28 March on the British Council Arts' website and on JioCinema.
