CILIP Kate Greenaway award

Sunday, 19 June 2016 Hyderabad

Pretty princesses, wicked queens, handsome princes, kind fairies, wicked witches, dwarves and trolls, talking horses, spindles and glass slippers and glass coffins: Mix them all up and what do you get? Fairy Tales, of course!

This year the CILIP Kate Greenaway Award shortlist for best picture book features The Sleeper and the Spindle, by Neil Gaiman, illustrated by Chris Riddell. As any lover of fairy tales will tell you if there is a spindle involved in putting someone to sleep then it can only be one fairy tale: And we all know which one that is, don’t we?

Join us as we read aloud sections of The Sleeper and the Spindle, remember the fairy tale that it builds upon and talk about how this new retelling takes many of the elements from the original tale and creates a completely different new tale, one which is no less magical and remains hauntingly beautiful.

Come and join. All are welcome.
