It has often been said that one of the best friends a man can have is a book. What better way to celebrate this than dedicating a special day to books and reading. We will do it our way at British Council by doing some reading, writing, illustrating and creating our own little book.

This writing and illustration workshop will focus on helping children work as individuals and in groups, to build stories, write on topics relating to non-fiction (such as their experiences on a trip, visiting a group of underprivileged children or an experience with animals), or use their imagination to write about going to the moon, or becoming musicians, writers or chefs .The aim of this workshop is to help the children be true to their own creative selves, while also working as a team to come up with story ideas that they can then share with the rest of their cohort. This workshop thus aims to engage children in innovative and collaborative storytelling through a series of prompts given to them by the facilitator. It helps them to push the boundaries of their imagination.

Just as our body needs healthy food, our mind also needs food for thought!

Words come out of stories and enter our minds through our eyes & ears… ‘worming’ (/warming – pun intended) their way into our thoughts. Oh! how it tickles the very cells within… exciting, enthralling the senses and sensibility. Words, ideas, feelings become the manure to nourish the tender little minds to blossom.

A story gives one a chance to get under the skin of a character and understand how other people think & feel. It also helps us to understand ourselves a little more.

World Book Day comes around once more to remind us to share a story, read a mind, and bring to life words, waiting on flat pages of closed books to a multi-dimensional experience
