About the performance

Brian Molley Quartet performed with pianist Utsav Lal, the newest member of their quartet at the Charbagh, British Council. The performance included notes from their latest album Clock.

Formed in 2012 by the Glasgow-based saxophonist and clarinetist, Brian Molley Quartet features the finest performers in UK jazz, with Mario Caribé on double bass and cavaquinho, Stuart Brown on drums and percussion and new addition Utsav Lal on piano. The group draws on extensive musical experience, all four members being highly sought after musicians on the UK scene.

Performing contemporary yet lyrical modern jazz ranging from tenderly crafted ballads to drum‘n’bass, straight-ahead jazz to Brazilian choro and baião, the ensemble deliver a diverse mixture of ‘skillfully crafted music’(London Jazz News) which is ‘assured and inventive. Molley's rich sonority is always impressive' (The Scotsman). 2013 saw the release of the group's critically acclaimed debut album CLOCK [BGMM©] - 'tremendous music from the great Scottish saxophonist’ (BBC) with Molley’s compositions and arrangements being highlighted for much praise.
