Skills for IELTS

Skills for IELTS is delivered face-to-face by British Council IELTS Experts – British Council qualified teachers who know the test inside out and can guide you extensively. Your teacher will coach you in applying strategies and techniques which are sure to maximise your IELTS score.  

Skills for IELTS is a flexible preparation approach that allows you to be in complete control of your learning. Designed for students who may not have much time but still need effective preparation or for those who want to study as intensively as they like. It offers you the flexibility of choosing not only the parts of the exam you wish to focus upon but also the lesson day, time, location (Delhi, Chennai & Kolkata) and teacher that best suit your needs. 

• IELTS consultation session with an IELTS expert at the beginning of your IELTS journey to better understand where you are and how to get to where you need to be
• practise listening, speaking, reading, and writing in class
• get free access to our well-resourced Information Centre and a wide range of up-to-date self-study materials to help you prepare for the test.
• ascertain level of readiness for the IELTS exam through a Mock Test
• experience a real simulation of the IELTS pen and paper Test
• have 1-1 tutorial with IELTS expert at key points in your studies to understand how you are doing and what you need to focus on
• receive two writing feedback to improve your writing by doing additional writing tasks and submitting them for expert feedback.
• gain increased confidence before taking the general and academic module of the IELTS test
• develop an awareness of the most useful techniques for answering questions in the IELTS test and learn how to maximise your band score

Skills for IELTS allows you to construct your timetable as per your needs and personal schedule, on the online booking system (OBS). From your personal profile to the progress you are making, everything is managed in your myClass profile. From here, you can choose:

• the topics based on your learning goals
• the credit packages and intensity of your learning schedule based on the available timetable

When you register for myClass, you purchase a package of credits, either 15, 30 or 45 credits. 1 credit = 1 class = 90 minutes

We encourage you to book and attend a complimentary orientation session before starting classes. This orientation session is not included in the credits purchased.

Step 1 Ascertain your level of English (Refer to the easy self-assessment method below). Identify whether you are at Elementary, Pre-intermediate, Intermediate, Upper-Intermediate, or an Advanced level.

Step 2 Go to the online registration link here

Step 3 Add your details and Choose the course of your choice, English level as well as credit package. (1 credit is equal to 1 class which is 90 minutes in duration. Know more about our Credit package system below.)

Step 4 After your payment has been processed successfully, you will receive a confirmation email on the same, followed by activation of the online student portal. (Know more below)

Step 5 Submit your details and make payment online.

Step 6  After activation, you can create your personal profile on the myClass portal. This portal allows you to manage your course, book or cancel classes, view your progress, top up your credits and more. Please watch this video for a step-by-step guide.

To be able to register for Skills for IELTS, it is important you ascertain your current level of English skills. You can do self-assessment using the simple can-do statements as follows:

• You are an Intermediate level(B1) if you can share your thoughts, opinions, and views. For example:  She must be really tired. She’s worked late every night this week.

• You are at Upper intermediate level(B2) if you can present clear, detailed descriptions on a wide range of subjects related to your field of interest. For example: Unfortunately for him, the situation turned out to be opposite to what he thought it was.
• You are at Advanced level(C1 & C2) if you can present clear, detailed descriptions of complex subjects. For example: Being born and raised in India, I believe her to be the country’s best ambassador in the world

Note:  Skills for IELTS registrations are accepted for intermediate and above levels only. If you are in doubt just register for the level that you think is appropriate and in the post-registration orientation session our expert academic team will help you ascertain and choose the correct level.  We will be with you every step of the way and ensure the best learning pathway to achieve your goals.

• Skills for IELTS Listening – in this module you will be equipped with listening strategies such as predicting information, identifying synonyms and antonyms and dealing with distracting information, in order to correctly answer all IELTS Listening question types.
• Skills for IELTS Reading – in this module you will learn how to apply reading skills such as skimming and scanning, and techniques such as identifying synonyms and antonyms to tackle all IELTS Reading question types.
• Skills for IELTS Writing Academic – in this module you will encounter a comprehensive set of activities to maximise your score on IELTS Writing Task 1 and 2. You will learn how to identify key features and fully respond to the task prompt in order to meet expectations for Task Achievement, as well as improve your grammar and vocabulary.
• Skills for IELTS Writing General Training — in this part of the module you will complete a comprehensive set of activities designed to address the specific requirements of the IELTS General Training test. For Task 1, you will improve your ability to write personal letters using an appropriate tone, and a range of fully connected sentences. For Task 2, you will develop your ability to write an appropriate essay in response to a question. You will learn to fully respond to the question in order to achieve your best possible result.
• Skills for IELTS Speaking – in this module you will take part in speaking tasks and activities designed to maximise your score across all four assessment criteria: Fluency and Coherence, Lexical Resource, Grammatical Range and Accuracy, and Pronunciation.
