Nirupa Fernandez

Nirupa has over 25 years’ experience in strategic marketing, business development and partnerships. She started her career with Onida, a consumer durable company, staying for 5 years and doubling sales during this period. She was then an entrepreneur for 3 years before joining the British Council in 1997. She has a track record of initiating and building brand strategies and developing creative and innovative marketing strategies that focus on multi-channel dissemination. 

Nirupa led the Exams business in South India for 10 years, growing it exponentially during this time. She then led on commissioning Project English, designing and developing an innovative strategy with an unparalleled scale of ambition comprising 3 strands – States, Corporate and Teaching – that has now engaged with close to a million teachers, over 30m learners, and gained global recognition. Nirupa also developed an ambitious and strategic plan for Digital English in India based on solid market research, and target audience segmentation, focusing on English Skills for employability through e-learning, m-learning, broadcast and social media reaching over 8 million learners in 2017-18 and setting up a digital hub for South Asia. 

Nirupa has an MBA, the CIM Professional Diploma in Marketing, and has attended the senior leadership course at Henley Business School, UK.
