Understand your IELTS score
You will be given a score from 1 to 9 for each part of the test – Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking. The average produces your overall band score. You can score whole (e.g., 5.0, 6.0, 7.0) or half (e.g., 5.5., 6.5, 7.5) bands in each part of the test. Find out more about the IELTS 9-band scale and understand your IELTS score.
IELTS provides results for all levels of English: there is no such thing as a pass or fail.
Your IELTS score maps onto the Council of Europe’s Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR).
The table indicates the IELTS band scores we expect to be achieved at the threshold of each particular CEFR level. Please note that the band scores referred to are the overall scores and not the individual Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking scores.

Questions about your IELTS results
If you did not receive the score you expected, you can apply for your test to be remarked. This is called an Enquiry on Results or EOR.
If you would like to make an EOR, you need to apply at the centre where you booked your test no later than six weeks after the test date.
You can choose which parts of the test you want to have re-marked.
You will have to pay for an EOR. This fee will be refunded if your score is increased for any part of the test. EOR take 8 – 10 weeks to complete.
Is it possible to take the test again?
Yes, you can take IELTS as many times as you like.
However, if you want to improve your IELTS score, you must improve your English first!
Take a look at your Test Report Form and see which skills you need to work on.
Taking the test again and again will not improve your results unless you work on the weaknesses identified in your Test Report Form.
Find out how to improve your score next time and book another test when you feel ready.
